- Wide 5 Lowered Ball Joint Drum to Disc Brake Conversion Kit for ’66-’7
Description:
New from AC Industries is this 5 x 205mm lug pattern disc brake kit with lowered spindles. This kit will fit all Bug and Karmann Ghia’s with the 1966 and later ball joint style front suspensions and will lower the car approximately 2.5″ and maintain the stock ride quality (see note below). This kit will also work great on fiberglass body buggies and replica cars with the same suspensions where you desire to lower the car.
This kit includes:
• (2) Wide 5 front rotors
• (2) floating calipers
• (1) set of premium disc brake pads
• (1) pair new lowered disc spindles
• (2) stainless steel DOT approved brake hoses
• Bearings and seals*
• Mounting hardware
• Step by step instructions
NOTE: Requires 15″ wheels or larger. This kit will not work with 14″ wheels.
NOTE: All lowered spindles on the market today will move the wheels outward towards the fender of the car by approximately 1/2″, making the front end wider. Please consider this before you purchase any brake kit with lowered spindles and plan on this offset with the tires/wheels you will install.
NOTE: 1966-1968½ ball joint front suspensions will need to use outer tie rod ends from a 1969 and newer front end when installing this kit:
- 1969 on Left outer tie rod end (Part#: 311415811C)
- 1969 on Right outer tie rod end (Part#: 311415812C)
On 1966-1968½ Bug & Ghia the customer must verify what existing spindles on the car. When switching to new replacement spindles, these are all late style 1968 ½ and later spindles that require the correct 1968 ½ and later tie rod ends. Please read the explainer article to identify what spindles your car currently has so you can confirm if you need to buy late model replacement tie rod ends. It is the customer’s responsibility to purchase the correct tie rod ends.
NOTE: On 1966 Bugs or Karmann Ghia’s the Brake hose that come in the kit will be to short. You will need two (Part#: 211611701SS) hoses
NOTE: To use this kit on a Thing you will need to change both lower control arms to Bugs. A stock thing has raised spindles that are approximately 3″ higher than a bug. Installing this lowered spindle kit will lower your Thing approximately 5.5″:
- Left lower Bug arm (Part#: #131405151A)
- Right lower Bug arm (Part#: #131405152A)
